Service Description

Welcome to Hip Hop Level 1! Whether you're new to dance or just looking to explore the world of hip hop, this level will give you the foundational skills to start your journey. Hip hop dance is not just about movement—it’s a culture that spans music, fashion, and attitude. Let’s dive into the basics! 1. What is Hip Hop Dance? Hip hop dance originated in the 1970s in the streets of New York City, especially the South Bronx. It’s a fusion of different dance styles, such as breakdancing, locking, and popping. Over the years, hip hop dance has grown to include various styles, from the freestyle movements of street dancers to choreographed routines seen in music videos and performances. 2. Key Elements of Hip Hop Culture: B-boying/B-girling (Breakdancing): This includes floor work, spins, and freezes. It was one of the first styles to emerge in hip hop culture. Locking: A dance style involving quick arm and body movements, typically followed by holding ("locking") certain positions. Popping: A style where the dancer quickly contracts and relaxes muscles to create a "popping" effect. Freestyle (Improvisation): A key part of hip hop dance is the ability to improvise and "battle" or compete with other dancers on the spot. 3. Basic Hip Hop Movements: At Level 1, you’ll learn some of the fundamental movements that form the building blocks of hip hop dancing: Bounce: A basic movement that forms the rhythm of many hip hop styles. It involves bending the knees slightly and bouncing up and down to the beat. Two-Step: A basic footwork move where you step side-to-side to the rhythm. The Wave: A smooth movement where you create a fluid motion from one part of your body to another (e.g., hands to arms or arms to torso). Body Roll: A wave-like movement that travels from the chest down to the hips, usually performed to slow beats. 4. The Attitude: Hip hop dance is not just about the moves, but about expressing yourself. The attitude and energy you bring to your movements is just as important as the technique. It’s about confidence, freedom, and having fun! 5. The Music: Hip hop music often has strong beats and rhythmic patterns that help drive the movement. The music is a huge influence on the dance—each beat and sound can inspire different movements. 6. Basic Hip Hop Etiquette: Respect: Respect the space, the other dancers, and the art form. Whether you're practicing or performing, it's important to be mindful of others.
