HIP HOP 8+ LEVEL 2

TUESDAY 7:30PM

1 hNorth 6th Street

Service Description

Welcome to Hip Hop Level 2! Now that you’ve learned the basics, it’s time to take your skills to the next level. At this stage, you’ll be expanding your knowledge of different hip hop styles, learning more complex movements, and starting to incorporate more fluid transitions into your dance. You’ll also develop your own style and rhythm, learning how to express yourself more confidently through the movement. 1. Building on the Foundation In Level 1, you mastered basic moves like the bounce, two-step, and body roll. Now, you’ll focus on building your vocabulary of hip hop steps and integrating them into more complex routines. You’ll also work on improving your performance, energy, and stage presence. 2. New Styles & Concepts to Explore: Groove: One of the core aspects of hip hop is understanding the groove, or the feel of the music. This is the "sway" or "bounce" that makes the dance come alive. It’s not just about moving to the rhythm, but feeling the flow of the music and responding to it. Isolations: These are movements that isolate specific parts of the body, such as the head, chest, or hips. This can add a new layer of complexity to your dance and make your movements appear sharper and more controlled. Footwork: More intricate footwork and patterns come into play at this level. You’ll learn how to use your feet more dynamically, with faster footwork and smooth transitions between movements. Floorwork: You may start learning some basic floor moves, like knee spins, hand glides, or simple breakdancing moves. This helps develop balance, agility, and control. Power Moves: If you're interested in breakdancing (B-boying or B-girling), you’ll begin to explore basic power moves like windmills or 6-step, which require strength and technique. 3. Finer Details in Technique: Posture & Alignment: Pay close attention to your posture—hip hop is not just about movement, but about shaping and controlling your body in space. Keep your chest up and your body aligned with your movements. Popping & Locking: In Level 2, you’ll refine your popping and locking techniques. Popping is about quickly contracting and releasing muscles to create a sharp, jerky effect, while locking involves freezing at specific points of a movement. 4. Combining Moves & Transitions: At this level, you’ll start linking the individual moves you've learned into short sequences. A big part of this stage is working on transitions between moves to make your dance look smooth and fluid.
